My name is Mary Katherine Coughlin, I am a 2015 graduate of Wellesley College with a BA in Architecture and a 2021 graduate of Harvard Graduate School of Design with a Master in Urban Planning. During my undergraduate and graduate education, I have taken courses in architecture, urban design, urban planning, social psychology, advertising, product design, web design, animation, real estate finance, land use and environmental law, urban economic policy, user-centered design & studio art as well as cross enrolled in engineering systems classes at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and policy courses at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

As an employee, student, and intern I gained experience in project engineering, design, consumer research, competitive intelligence, and proposal preparation. My work involved firms such as Skanska USA, Disney Resort Real Estate Company, Hartford Funds, Raymond James Financial, Partners Healthcare, Inc., and Reebok.

Each opportunity enabled me to develop exceptional organizational skills, apply various software tools, further my capacity to be a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team, and recognize the imperative to balance design, policy, social, and business objectives in the built environment. I’ve had the chance to report my findings and my team’s work to CEOs and other senior executives, as well as make presentations to 300+ professionals.

I am interested in how the design of spaces, places, and related communications can affect human behavior where people work, live, shop, and play. Ultimately, I am inspired by people, projects, and organizations that apply design thinking to create experiential places that excite consumers, engage employees, and improve everyone’s quality of life.
